About the Church

WHERE WE'VE BEEN, WHERE WE'RE GOING

Elevation Church is often viewed as an overnight success. But what most people don't know is that this church had its beginnings in the heart of Pastor Steven Furtick when he was just 16 years old. While reading Jim Cymbala's book, Fresh Wind Fresh Fire, he came across a statement on page 23 that would change his life forever. "I despaired at the thought of my life passing me by without seeing God move greatly on my behalf." That sentence proved to be the catalyst for a life mission of seeing people far from God filled with life in Christ through the local church. It was over the next 9 years that everything started to come together.

In 2005, Pastor Steven and 8 families sold their homes and quit their jobs and moved to Charlotte, NC. On February 5, 2006, Elevation opened its doors with 121 people attendance in the Providence High School Atrium. In just over three years, God has moved in amazing ways and has used Elevation to change thousands of lives in the Charlotte area. Elevation was recently recognized as the 4th Fastest Growing Church in America by Outreach Magazine. Through God's favor and a relentless pursuit of a singular mission, Elevation Church has experienced over 8,000 professions of faith and over 2,000 baptisms since our launch. From humble and sacrificial beginnings, God has placed his hand on Elevation Church and we truly believe the best is yet to come.
